There a many factors to weigh up in deciding which driving school to use. Undoubtedly, one of the best things to go on is recommendations. But bear in mind the right instructor for your mates, may not be the best instructor for you.
Here are a few things to consider:
Is the Instructor fully qualified (green badge) or a trainee (pink badge)
If there are special offers, work out how much a course of say 30 lessons will cost in total. (a driving school with a free first lesson may still end up more expensive)
What is the instructor's pass rate (there are no official statistics and no one will tell you that there pass rate is below average!)
What car do they use and how old is it? A driving school car more than 3 or 4 years old is likely to be passed it's best.
Do they seem friendly and professional when they answer the phone?
Things to ask your mates:
Is the Instructor friendly?
Does the Instructor encourage them?
Does the instructor get fed up with them?
Is the training structured?
Do they have an idea of what progress they're making?
Is the car clean and well presented?
Is the instructor generally punctual?
